A neighbor of mine transports cargo in his 18-wheeler from Texas to California twice a week. High diesel prices made him worry that he couldn't afford to repair the truck if it should break down. His company offered to buy the truck so that he could continue his run.
I think he works for a company that appreciates the working man's problems.
A marketing firm has decided that its staff will work from their homes on Fridays from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Using the latest communication technology, staff members can still work together during "Virtual Fridays."
This option sounds great, but you have to wonder about everyone's ability to stay on task outside the office environment. If it is such a good idea, why don't we do it all the time?
If you have a gas guzzling vehicle, you may want to consider trading down. Be careful though, not that many dealers are interested in buying your SUV. They have trouble moving the new ones off the lot.
Maybe you just need to go to India and buy a car that runs on air. No kidding.
A circulating e-mail claims India is supposed to be the hot spot for buying the Air Car in August.
Developed by Motor Development International Founder Guy Negre, the vehicle uses compressed air to push the engine's pistons.
According to the Popular Mechanics' Web site, the CityCat model cost is low ($12,700), the speed adequate (tops out at 68 mph), and the range acceptable (125 miles). Filling it up should only take about $2 … and 4 hours.
O.K., so maybe the U.S. is not patient enough for that option.
