Education and Energy at WEFTEC10

Over the last two days at WEFTEC10, the buzz has been about education and energy. According to exhibitors (including Singer Valve, Thompson Pump, ITT, IDEX, Trojan, BioAir, Semaphore, VUEWorks, Invensys, Sherwin Williams, Johnson Controls, Tekmar, Siemens, and Godwin Pumps), there is a need to get the word out about the upgrades and new technologies available to the wastewater treatment and water quality markets.

Those markets also are itching to find ways to save energy, and more and more vendors are either developing those products or helping facilities discover where they can make improvements in existing processes.

Did you know that CMOM, Phase 2 of NPDES and the retroreflectivity standard for signage all make asset management systems a requirement rather than a luxury? Did you know that there are companies that will help you “find the money” to help meet your energy efficiency goals through performance-based contracts? One says it will even guarantee results.

These are just a few of the conversations I hope to develop into material that you can use. Check back with us often or just subscribe to our e-newsletters, which feature new items on the website weekly. You also may want to take 10 minutes to fill out our salary survey, which will be used to check the job market barometer for 2010.

And finally, while I still have your attention, we are putting on our first-ever Virtual Event on Nov. 10, in which will hear from experts on greenhouse gases and chemical regulation reform. Education and energy savings all at once. You can access all of these links from our homepage, www.eponline.com. We hope to see you there.

About the picture: Teledyne Webb Research has developed an autonomous underwater vehicle, driven by a buoyancy engine, which can measure oceanographic parameters. It’s called the Slocum Glider.
